Archibald is a disruptive, e-commerce brand that works directly with master craftsmen from around the world to create eyewear and essentials without traditional luxury markups. As design director, I helped demonstrate Archibald as a purveyor of exceptionally-produced handcrafted goods by designing their first iterations into men's, women's and unisex products across various categories. By encompassing a human-centered design ethos and establishing a signature style and quality, I helped place Archibald as a key player in the direct-to-consumer space.

Under my direction, hand-teaseled scarves made from the finest grade fibers of the underbellies of Mongolian goats, hand-carved and gold-foiled serial numbers on the temples of eyewear and a single, olive green pick-stitch found subtly on every product became the brand’s signature—recognized by customers globally as the Archibald ‘seal of approval’.

Inspired by the tireless work ethic of Japanese Takumi (artisans) who produce Archibald’s eyewear (each pair undergoes over 200 manual processes in a specialized town in Fukui, Japan) we sought the same level of dedication for a leather goods facility, traveling to Firenze, Italy and discovering a family-run workshop that spans over three generations of dedicated craftspeople to make the products.

The duffle weekender was designed to last a lifetime. Featuring detachable straps, hidden zip pockets, poly-cotton twill interiors, two-way zip fastening and polished palladium hardware, the bag is made of full grain, vegetable-tanned Italian calfskin that produces a unique patina over time, absorbing wear and serving as a diary of one’s life with every mark.

ALL SAINTS COLLABORATION

For summer 2015, we collaborated with British fashion retailer All Saints on their first foray into eyewear—designing a capsule collection of six sunglasses styles for men and women with a limited edition run. The sunglasses, featuring accents such as a hand-etched surfaces were fitted with custom-tinted, hi-index polarized lenses and were available exclusively online.
All 210 pieces of each style were quickly sold out.
